Buoyage
The International Organization for Marine Aids to Navigation provides a standardized global system of Aids to Navigation developed by, formerly the International Association of Marine Aids to Navigation and Lighthouse Authorities. It ensures vessels navigate safely through channels, avoid hazards, and enter or leave ports correctly. This system uses buoys, beacons, lights, top- marks, and shapes, each with specific meanings based on location and direction of travel. It’s the maritime version of road signs for ships.
