Presentation Presentation Review Review
To enable passage planning and for keeping track of your position at sea it is imperative, for the safety of the crew, vessel and other sea farers, that your skills plotting and maintaining a safe course is accurate. These basic exercises will enable you to become more confident in navigation and chart-work. PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT These basic chart-work exercises cover plotting a course between two waypoints, estimating dead reckoning positions, identifying marks to take bearings and calculating an estimate time of arrival. Charts A and B, to be used, are extracts from the RYA Training Charts 3 and 4 respectively. For one exercise you will need to also take into consideration tidal set and drift to provide a course to steer and convert True bearings to Magnetic that the helmsman would have to follow.
